Got a headache? Before you reach for the advil, try these out!
1. Hydrate.
Water is so important and your headache may simply be from dehydration. Staying hydrated throughout the day can prevent headaches from happening and drinking a glass or two of water when you are experiencing the headache can do wonders!
2. Peppermint Oil.
Neck and shoulder tension are a common contributing factor to headaches; using 2-3 drops of peppermint oil topically to the area 3 times a day will be sure to help your headache. For a muscle rub add a few drops of peppermint essential oil with a carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, etc) and apply to neck and shoulder to help loosen them up. 3. Acupressure.
There is a point on your hand between the second metacarpal and the thumb in the fleshy area nicknamed the ‘Headache point.’ Putting pressure on this area for 1-2 minutes is helpful to ease headaches (***Do not use this in pregnancy or suspected pregnancy).
There many reasons people suffer from headaches and the goal of the acupuncturist is to find the root cause and treat the whole body to ease the suffering of headaches. Acupuncture is very effective for chronic headaches and migraines, and muscular tension.
Many times tight neck and shoulders influence the headaches and using acupuncture and cupping to treat the body has amazing results. Cupping encourages increased blood flow to loosen muscles and release toxins.
