2) Practice What You Preach….even in Miami!?
*I have heard many stories describing experiences with trainers who…ahem…may not practice what they preach in terms of living a healthy lifestyle. At Medpoint we take pride in being the experts, which means walking the walk!
*Our busy clients are often traveling with work and it is essential to teach them how to solidify their healthy habits, even on the road!
*What is more important: the fast food convenience or living longer? Easy decision!
*A Personal Example:
Last Wednesday after landing in Miami I enjoyed a sunny 30 block power walk across Miami Beach down Collins Ave to find the “Apple A Day Market”, which after a google search I decided was the best place to stock up on healthy snacks for a few days. My hotel fridge was filled with fresh fruits, oatmeal and greek yogurt for the duration of my visit. Well worth the afternoon walk!
3) Listener question: “Aric, I just started a new workout program and heard it is best to do cardio before weights, is this true?”
*Great question and a very common one!
*For most people, weights BEFORE cardio is ideal:
WHY?
-Utilizes readily available glycogen stores and blood sugar for performance.
-With sugar available we can lift heavier, recover faster and see better results.
-Cardio is not about performance for most people, more fitness improvements.
-What fuel is left? Some glycogen (stored sugar) and fat to oxidize and use for energy!
*However, will the average person notice a big difference? Perhaps not if your intensity is not that high. If you are aiming to grow muscle, which requires more tension I would still recommend cardio AFTER your training.
