Meet Bryan Marshall AND Exercise: Can It Extend Your Life?

1)  New Medpoint Sponsored Athlete: Bryan Marshall

Listen to the Podcast

*strength and conditioning coach for NHL athletes

*4 TIME Ontario powerlifting champ! 2008-2011
Qualities we look for in a sponsored athlete:

*Drug free ambassador for their sport

*Embody the same strong ethics and values we share at Medpoint Fitness

*A role model for other athletes to look up to.

Bryan personifies these qualities and I am excited to be helping him with his sports nutrition as he prepares to defend his title again this spring.

2) Myth Buster: Exercise can make someone “healthier”, but can it actually make you live longer?

Answer: it can!

*There is no debate that exercise can not only prevent disease but can reverse it. For instance, a diagnosed type 2 diabetic can regain control of blood glucose levels and have their diagnosis reversed.

*With aging specifically, we know that a slowing of “cell turnover” ( the removal and replacement of older cellular proteins and organelles) is one of the main factors that causes us to age.

*There is no quick fix or magic pill to slow the aging process. The question in science is finding a way to promote “autophagy” or the recycling of these structures to help delay the aging process.

*New research from the University of Texas Medical Centre is demonstrating that autophage activity is induced by even short bouts of exercise in mice. After only 30 minutes, autophagosome activity had increased and helped mice burn more blood sugar protecting against diabetes.

Age is just a number, if you want to FEEL younger and even delay the aging process…exercise regularly.
