Fitness Vacation AND Cooking Show Info

1)  Time to spill the beans:  Was my vacation full of fitness or fatness?

Listen to the Podcast

What are the challenges when you take a week off?

Challenge: New routine! It is difficult to eat properly away from your regular work routine.

Solution: Still plan meals in advance and bring food with you no matter where you travel.

Challenge: Often a new gym or no gym!

Solution: I found a quiet gym in a small town outside of London, great for the body and MIND.

Challenge: Lack of motivation?

Solution: Choose a new activity and perhaps even one that is LOW impact to let your body heal during a week off. I am not a “walker”, but enjoyed multiple slow paced long walks last week.

Benefit? Not necessarily cardiovascular, but you are burning calories while also enjoying the mental health benefits of
beautiful spring weather.

This last solution is an important one. There is nothing wrong taking a week off! Get out of the gym, walk, swim, cycle, do something that feels fresh and gives your joints a break. During one of my walks I went to a local farm and picked delicious asparagus.

2) Myth buster:  There are endless sources of health information on television, but are TV experts always good sources of information?

*This myth buster came from personal experience last week having some time off to watch daytime TV(normally never happens due to my schedule)

Segment: Cooking portion of a daytime talk show.

Claim: “Healthy” alternative to traditional burgers.

Reasoning: They contained chopped broccoli.

 However….what else did they contain?

*ground pork patties mixed with cheese before grilling

*once cooked, cheese slices were placed on top AND under the patty

*buns were buttered then grilled with cheese covered patty

Take home message: as with any health choice, make informed decisions! Just because it looks flashy on TV and is even described as “healthy” does not mean it is good for you!

*I would disagree with the claim that broccoli alone made these healthier patties.
